[...] We recently ran into a memory issue on Coldfusion while performing a fairly large loop operation. I suggest reading this blog post to learn more about this issue: http://www.nomachetejuggling.com/2006/12/07/coldfusions-compiler/ [...]

dude chill :) i am not trying to discourage you. i am simply alarmed that one can publicly post reverse-engineered code...

anyone with the slightest curiosity of the "under-the-hood" workings of cf has probably decompiled all of cfusion.jar but you dont see too many people (anyone?) blogging about it.

thats all i was trying to point out :)

itsme,

It's probably not. I mentioned in the post it was probably illegal to decompile and post the code.

However, the folks behind ColdFusion are all extremely bright individuals devoted to a quality product. I was confident that they would appreciate the effort, rather than want to silence or sue me. I was right - a number of the CF developers have posted to this very post and none of them told me what a lawbreaking jerk I was.

In fact, you're the first person who has had an issue with my attempt to figure out how to answer a ColdFusion user's question honestly.

Hi,
In our WebLogic+ColdFusion 7.0.2 setup environment, in ColdFusion administrator-> Settings I do not see any option to turn-on white space management.
After searching on this, I found someone's suggestion to modify neo-runtime.xml with first attribute value to "true". This is already set to true, but I do not see the White space management option in CF Admin. Can anyone advice on this?

Thanks

Yep, his comment must have been in moderation when I posted my earlier comment. :)

@Neil - My point is that your comparison test is not realistic and the results should not be used to evaluate CF versus Java (or some other language).

People who are not knowledgeable about CF (or have an ax to grind) will jump on your conclusion, take your data out of context, and use it as "evidence" for why CF is a poor choice for a web programming language.

Yes, someone on the Scorpio team saw this. Rupesh is a ColdFusion engineer and mentions improving this part of Scorpio in the comments above. :)

As Rupesh said, we are listening and we have already found and improved this particular situation in Scorpio.

Got any others? :-)
